Anita Castillo-Halvorssen (she/her) is a queer Venezuelan-Norwegian AEA actor, singer, educator, and film editor based in New York City. Originally from Colorado, she recently graduated from Brown University's MFA acting program at Trinity Rep. During her time in Providence, she appeared in RILA's 2017 Teatro en El Verano production of Romeo & Juliet and Trinity Rep's Fuente Ovejuna.

Anita is most interested in the lies we tell ourselves and how to bring them to the surface. Her storytelling investigates the boundless potential of human identity, often by incorporating a wacky, zany sense of play in her work. As a teaching artist, she focuses on nurturing interactive, inquiry-based, social-emotional learning environments for students of all ages. Her workshops have covered a wide range of topics such as Conflict Resolution, Performance-Driven Engagement in the Virtual Classroom, Teaching Poetry, Storytelling & The Performing Arts, and during a RILA Plática, gave a workshop on Video Editing 101.

Currently, you can catch Anita in commercials for the Match dating app, or starring in her web comedy series Call From. In November, she appeared Off-Broadway in Red Bull Theater's world premiere virtual reading of Ana Caro's Spanish Golden Age play The Courage to Right a Woman's Wrongs. Recent NYC stage roles include Grusha in a modern adaptation of Brecht's Caucasian Chalk Circle at Artistic New Directions’ Eclectics Festival.

Anita has presented her comedic solo show _All She Has_ in Rhode Island and Vermont. The piece is an interrogation of this word “woman” we all use, but by which we all seem to mean different things. With an irreverent dose of humor, _All She Has_ tells a story of redemption and self-discovery in the face of the global patriarchy’s absurd constraints. She looks forward to debuting the piece in NYC someday when we can safely sit next to each other.

Anita has worked as a teaching artist for Rhode Island Latino Arts, Brown University, the Young Actors’ Summer Institute at Trinity Rep, the CUNY Creative Arts Team, and the Bread Loaf School of English at Middlebury College. Anita is a teaching assistant at the City & Country School in Manhattan.

Additional training: British American Drama Academy, BA in Film & Theater from Swarthmore College
