Benjamin Lundberg Torres Sánchez is a Colombian, Providence-based visual artist, performance artist, and educator whose work leverages encounters between his body and the states that claim him to investigate (re-)performances of cultural, familial, medical, memorial, and governmental rituals. His work engages commingling bureaucratic and bodily traces through records, documents, and other documentation as a way to map the ways bodies are administered by states.

His work has appeared in spaces including the Queens Museum, RISD Museum (Providence), Museum of the Moving Image (Queens), PHI Centre (Montreal), The Mills Gallery at Boston Center for the Arts, the Morgan Library & Museum (Manhattan), SP Escola de Teatro (Sao Paulo), Zona 30 (Lima), El Bunker (La Paz), La Galeria at Villa Victoria Center for the Arts (Boston), IMAGO Gallery (Warren, RI), the Pigeon Hole Gallery (Providence), Pittsburgh Performance Art Festival, Brooklyn International Performance Art Festival, Providence International Arts Festival, PVDFest (Providence), DownStreet Art’s TRUST Festival (North Adams, MA), Jersey City Art’s Studio Tour, Bowery Poetry Club (Manhattan), Teatro Circulo (Manhattan), La MaMa E.T.C. Benjamin is a resident artist at AS220 in Providence, and is a member of the 2012 EMERGENYC cohort at the Hemispheric Institute of Performance & Politics. He is the recipient of NEA funding through AS220’s 2017 Community Live Arts Residency, was RISCA’s 2017 Merit Fellow in New Genres, and is RISCA’s 2018 Merit Fellow in Film & Video.
