As a fierce ice storm rips through northern Minnesota, Katy and her mother wait restlessly for her father’s ship to return to their harbor in Duluth, Minnesota. Katy even creates her own secret code to help bring her father home safely. Storm Codes vividly combines historically based illustrations with nautical terms and descriptions. On ships, each flag means a different letter, and flags together can spell words.
Learn more from the book's illustrator, Christina Rodriguez, and how you can spell out your own secret code using colored flags.
