  • A Call for Latinx Artists | Summer 2022!
    We are looking for bilingual artists to offer hands-on craft-making, sketching/drawing for families, and bachata or salsa demonstrations during the summer, twice a week (dates TBD). On one of those days, we will set up a drumming circle where anyone with drumming experience can participate.
    Ability to speak Spanish or Spanglish with participants. You must be available to participate on one evening and one weekend during the day for three weeks in July 2022 (dates TBD).

    $75 each evening per hour for dance instructor and drumming leader.
    $150 per week for two nights of hands-on visual art or artisan/craft classes for families.

    The community drumming circle is open to anyone who has experience. It is free of charge and no stipends available for participants. We encourage you to bring your own drums, but we can provide one upon request, on a first come-first serve basis.

  • We're hiring! | Work at La Galería | Rhode Island Latino Arts
    Rhode Island Latino Arts has two part-time summer positions to undertake a variety of tasks. You will help in planning, organizing and promoting programs and activities as well as carrying out important operational duties on-site at La Galería del Pueblo and out in the field.
    The Programs Coordinator will work with RILA’s Executive Director to plan and organize existing and new programs and activities, as well as carry out important operational duties, working across such disciplines as dance, music, theater, public art, and the visual arts. The position allows for flexible hours, with a combination of remote and in-person work, as well as an opportunity to work with one of Rhode Island’s leading culturally specific non-profit organizations. The position is 20-25 hours/week from June 1-December 31, 2022 with opportunity for renewal dependent on funding.

    The Community Outreach Assistant will play a key role in connecting the public to the organization’s mission and vision. The ideal candidate will engage the community at-large as well as the Spanish-speaking community in the organization’s activities and will build community relationships, organize and lead Community Pláticas, and work in tandem with the Executive Director and Projects Coordinator to represent RILA at community events. The position is 20 hours/week from June 1-December 31 2022 with opportunity for renewal dependent on funding.

  • Your Story Can Be Part of Latino History
    During the Summer and Fall of 2022, Rhode Island Latino Arts will be hosting bilingual community pláticas around the state and invite community members to contribute to the Latino Archives. Do you want to contribute your story and old photographs to the Latino Archives?
    Latinos have been the fastest growing yet most underrepresented ethnic group in historical documents in Rhode Island. This is why we want to collect items and stories about life in Rhode Island’s barrios | neighborhoods, and to provide a forum for Spanish-speaking immigrants to make their voices heard, and their photos placed in an archive for future generations to see.

    We are looking for personal stories and memories you may want to share about an event, place or person of Latin-American or Caribbean heritage. We're also interested in seeing and getting copies of personal items, such as photographs, movies, and more. Scroll down to read below for more details.
