Encuentro 2018 to be hosted by Rhode Island Latino Arts

Rhode Island Latino Arts is proud to host the 3rd Annual National Convening of Latinos in Heritage Conservation (LHC) in 2018.

Rhode Island Latino Arts (RILA), Latinos in Heritage Conservation (LHC) and the Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission (RIHPHC) are co-presenting a three-day historic preservation and cultural heritage national conference in Providence, RI. Encuentro 2018 will be held on April 26-28, 2018 jointly at the Joseph A Doorley Jr. Municipal Building and Roger Williams University School of Continuing Studies, Downtown Campus, with additional programs and tours elsewhere in Providence and the Blackstone Valley. The full schedule will be available by early March 2018 and registration for LHC members/participants will open late-February 2018.

For the first time Latinos in Heritage Conservation is bringing a national conversation about Latino historic preservation to New England. Featuring guest speakers from across the country and opportunities to meet and exchange ideas with fellow practitioners and advocates for Latino historic preservation, this is a not to be missed opportunity!

The host committee includes: Providence Preservation Society, Providence Art, Culture + Tourism, Providence Planning Office, Providence Public Library, Adams Library (Central Falls), the Rhode Island Historical Society and Roger Williams University.

LHC and RILA invite proposals for posters on historic preservation as it relates to Latin@ peoples and sites across the United States, with a specific emphasis on the Northeast. Students are especially encouraged to submit proposals.

Registration: $80 for full registration; $30 for Thursday/Friday; $50 to attend only on Saturday. Student rate: $15 for Thursday/Friday and $60 package cost for all thee days. Student volunteers may have the conference fee waived. Click here to volunteer.
