What does the 1st Annual Latinx Bilingual Playwrights Festival @RILA offer?We will offer light meals and refreshments for the duration of the festival. We will NOT offer housing and travel for participants.
What is the rehearsal schedule for the Festival?To participate, you must commit to the full 2½ day festival.
- Fri. Sept. 11 | 6-10pm: You will meet other playwrights and actors, and participate in the first read-through of selected plays.
- Sat. Sept. 12 | 10am-7pm: Casting of actors and rehearsals.
- Sun. Sept. 13: Morning rehearsals and afternoon tech rehearsals. Public performance at 5pm.
If your play is selected, you will be required to be there for all rehearsals and for the final performances.
Submission CriteriaPlease provide a copy of your script in its current state by the deadline. You may use the green button below to upload your script.
Deadline to submit is June 1, 2020. - Submissions are limited to one per person. Plays must be unpublished, professionally unproduced, and not currently under option at the time of submission.
- Plays should be 20 minutes long (or less). Short plays or scenes (maximum length: 50 pages) on any subject will be accepted.
- Scripts may be in English, English-and-Spanish, or solely in Spanish. NOTE: Spanish-language scripts must be accompanied by an English translation.
- Teatro Latino @RILA embraces diversity. Writers are encouraged to include roles for actors across a wide spectrum of race, gender expression, religion, age, body type, and ability.
- Cast size should be 2–5 actors. Scripts with one-actor plays may be considered.
- No improvisational, musical or straight dance pieces will be considered.
- The plays will be performed inside RILA’s Black Box performance space, with minimum lighting and prop and set requirements. Scripts with significant technical demands may be rejected on that basis.
The physical scripts become the property of
Teatro Latino del Pueblo@ RILA and will not be returned. In this case, “property” means the physical property, not the intellectual property or any rights to the play.
