La Galería del Barrio, located inside the Southside Cultural Center (SCCRI) on Broad Street, is Providence's first urban art gallery dedicated slrely to the art of Latinx, Afro-Latino and Indigenous-Latinx art. It is a light and bright inviting space for viewing curated art exhibitions. With free on-site parking and free entry during gallery hours and during special events, La Galería is a wonderful place to visit.

Gallery curator Marta V. Martínez with support from David Sánchez of SCC, bring the best in local art and artists to showcase Rhode Island's position as a true art mecca. Opening night receptions are free and open to the public, and a great opportunity to meet and mingle with these talented artists. In June 2024, we will join Gallery Night Providence as they tour the various art galleries in and around the City of Providence. Visit their site here for more details.

Gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday from 4-6 pm. For more information: lagaleria@rilatinoarts.org

Don't confuse this new gallery with La Galería del Pueblo, located since 2015 at 209 Central Street in Central Falls. This is Rhode Island's first gallery and cultural hub dedicated solely to the exchange of Latino art and art expression.

La Galería hosts monthly Artist MeetUps on the fourth Thursday of every month, which include opportunities for artistic exchange such as poetry readings, script readings, and networking in Spanish, English and/or Spanglish. We also host art exhibitions in our small, intimate, space, featuring local art curated for public viewing.

Lastly, La Galería is also the home of the Latino Oral History Archives and Collections, with a recording space to share oral histories.

Gallery hours are by appointment only.

These two paintings of Las Hermanas Mirabal by Eva Jimenez, a gift to Rhode Island Latino Arts from the City of Providence and the University of Rhode Island Providence Gallery, are the featured portraits at La Galería del Barrio which informed our Afro-Latino theme.
