Teatro en El Verano

10th Anniversary Celebration

Come with us, as we travel a tu barrio | to your neighborhoo

Our 10th Anniversary!
This summer, as we celebrate 10 years of outdoor teatro, we are inviting our community to help sustain this beloved tradition by donating what you can, with a $5 suggested donation at each show. This is the first time we have asked for support of this kind, and every contribution—no matter the amount—helps us continue bringing free, bilingual theater to the neighborhoods that inspired it. If you’d like to give in advance, you can do so by clicking button below and entering our donation of $5 or more.

Please know: you will never be turned away. Donations are completely optional, and you are welcome to contribute on site if that’s easier for you. We will have someone available to accept donations by credit card, Venmo, CashApp, or cash during performances.

The ♥️ La Broa' t-shirt features the names of locations— still here or gone— that you can see during one of our Barrio Tours of Broad Street (aka La Broa') South Providence. The second tee (see left photo) is the same design worn by cast and crew during the 2024 premier on the main stage of Trinity Rep of the La Broa'. The play, written by former RILA artist Orlando Hernández is based on Marta's book Nuestras Raíces, which is still available for purchase.

We need your support

Celebrate our 10th Anniversary with us!
For ten years, Teatro en El Verano has served as a creative home and launching pad for emerging Latinx and bilingual actors in Rhode Island. As a community-based theater program, we nurture artists in a culturally affirming space where stories are told in two languages and performers see themselves reflected onstage. Many of our actors have gone on to work at Trinity Rep, direct across New England, or even appear on Broadway — and many return each summer because Teatro remains a place of belonging and growth. Increasing our stipends allows us to honor their contributions, support their development, and sustain the only bilingual traveling theater program in the state.

Teatro en El Verano's Influence

Since 2016, Teatro en el Verano has transformed Rhode Island’s neighborhoods into stages, bringing free bilingual theater directly to our communities. This program has not only made theater more accessible by bringing theater to the people, but it has also launched the careers of local Latino/Latina/Latinx artists—actors, designers, playwrights, and technicians—who have gone on to perform on major stages, including Trinity Repertory's main stage.

For example, La Tempestad, which ran at Trinity Rep from March 27-April 27, 2025, first premiered in Rhode Island during the 2019 Teatro en El Verano summer season. The play is a bilingual adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest, written by Kufa Castro & Orlando Hernández, who joined Teatro en El Verano in 2016 & 2017, respectively. La Tempestad was directed by Tatyana-Marie Carlo — it was her first time directing a play for RILA.
